Toronto, Canada – A report indicated that more than 75% Canadians, 15 years and older have good mental health. Released on Wednesday, the Statistics Canada report said most Canadians functions well, most days and feeling good about their life.
The report conducted by Statistics Canada also indicated that less than 2% Canadians are suffering from poor functioning and low positive emotions, wile 22% have moderate mental health, meaning they are either flourishing or languishing.
The combined data on mental illness found that 73%, which is equivalent to 20 million Canadians are considered to have good mental health. These individuals are flourishing when it comes to their mental health, and do not meet any criteria for major disorders. Those suffering from depression, generalized anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, alcohol abuse, and any other drug dependence or abuse would certainly need urgent care and treatment from corresponding agencies.
The Canadian Mental Health Association also issued a reaction towards the report, saying that one out of four Canadians does not have “complete” emotional health, including those suffering from psychological disorders, who would need the services of urgent care clinics ad any other health facilities.
The National Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Peter Coleridge said in a statement that Canada has been doing great, considering the 75% figure. The CEO emphasized cautions in spite of the positive findings in the statistics, saying a significant portion of the population still need help. He also wanted the statistics to illustrate such data.
Additionally, one out of five Canadians is living with a mental health problem or addiction issue. Almost 500,000 people tend to miss their work every week because of mental health issues, and suicide is considered as the second top cause of death among youth aged 15 and 24. Undoubtedly, people with a mental health disorder or any issue should need to visit an urgent care clinic for proper diagnosis and treatment.
The report was only based on the Canadian Community Health Survey in 2012, which indicated a good mental health state among most Canadians. However, the survey did not include specific segments of the populace with increased risks of mental health issues. Among the segregated population included those native Canadians living on reserves or settlements, military members, and people in care facilities and prisons.
Coleridge pointed out that mental health illnesses and problems begin during childhood and adolescence stages, and providing them a sort of an urgent care near me assistance is crucial. Thus, investing in the improvement and maintenance of the youth’s emotional well-being is necessary. The report, which indicated 75% Canadians with good mental health was only based on a survey, but does not necessarily reflect the reality, Coleridge added.
