Washington, D.C. – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is being urged by leading health groups to finalize their ruling on rejecting exemptions that cigar companies are trying to apply for, and that the said tobacco regulations should be implemented by April.
A total of 24 leading public medical and health organizations is urging the FDA to issue their final ruling to regulate all tobacco products by April 25. This is after a year the said FDA ruling was proposed. This is basically because of the increasing number of tobacco related cases in many urgent care clinics all over the country. Aside from the stricter ruling, the 24 organizations are pushing the FDA to reject the request of tobacco manufacturers to extend the current restrictions being implemented today.
The move by the organization is to prevent the need of many individuals to get to the point were urgent care is already needed. The said tobacco regulations of the FDA is to exert stricter authority over tobacco products, cigars, and even e-cigarettes. The said agency is currently regulating smokeless tobacco, cigarettes, and also roll-your-own tobacco, this is under the Landmark Law of 2009, the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act.
The 24 organizations are pushing that all tobacco products should be subjected to the regulatory authority of the FDA. This is critical in order to protect the growing public health concerns. In fact, a visit to any urgent care clinic will prove that a lot of tobacco related cases are being treated. This is mainly because of the risks being fed on the marketplace when it comes to tobacco product. When the new tobacco regulations are implemented, the health group hopes that said tobacco related health cases and deaths will drop significantly or hopefully would totally disappear in the future.
The FDA’s new ruling would strictly prohibit sales to minors, that will help parents to never wonder about looking for urgent care near me for their children. Age verification will be stricter and even vending machines are only allowed to be placed in adult-only facilities. The new regulations will even prohibit use of self service displays that sadly give children easy access to tobacco products.
However, the said group also proposed that the said rule still needs strengthening and need a wider comprehensive scope. This is basically to prevent tobacco manufacturers from thinking of new ways and designs to market their products that can undercut the potential of the new tobacco regulations to achieve its goals in saving more lives.
