London, England – The number of fetal alcohol syndrome cases has dramatically increased. This means that more and more pregnant women have been taking up more than the normal amount of alcohol.
This could be alarming because more children will need urgent care even at an early stage. There are abnormalities passed on to the child whenever the mother is not taking care of her body during pregnancy.
Right now, the experts have seen the results to triple. This was ever since they started recording the abnormalities some 16 years ago. For the figures, in 1997 to 1998, there were only 85 cases. In the most recent study, it shot to 252. This is just for the figures in England.
Mentally and Physically Impaired Children
The diagnoses are totally bad news. This is because children are suffering from severe mental and physical diseases. Even urgent care clinics are no longer enough to attend to this kind of matter.
Experts add the 252 children who were diagnosed are only making up a small amount of the total number. A lot of children who suffer from fetal alcohol syndrome have signs that do not show up until they are old enough.
Some symptoms, however, are the poor performance in schools and poor emotional balance. They cannot even socialize with the people around them efficiently.
